When we’re kids, we’re taught to pick a topic, head to the library, grab a book and learn the practice of research. “Hey kids, get out there and pick your brains! Bring back some solid facts that reach your conclusion and we’ll discuss next class.”

But is that research just for the delivery of the perfect score? Or are we just being prepared for the challenges of life that lie ahead? Can we apply what we’ve learned in all our years of study and research to the curriculum of life? For the sake of resilience, perseverance, and optimism, let’s hope.

When it’s time to delve into our lives and explore our limits, we’re the only ones who can do it. Only we can investigate the parameters of our entire being and conclude that when we hit that final speed bump in life, this is our time to “research.”

We are back in grade school. We’re applying the steps of research that we’ve now mastered, to the beautiful butterfly project that we will soon present in class. Only this time, we are applying those steps to the history of our life. It’s only when we hit a speed bump in life that we have the urge to understand ourselves better. It’s a time to reflect on our lives and our choices. It’s a time to practice self-awareness, mindfulness, or begin our spiritual journey. It’s time to get some answers.
